The 28th of May 2023 saw the final game of the 2022/2023 Premier League for Spurs who condemned Leeds to the championship with an impressive 1-4 victory over them. However, the entire campaign was nothing to cheer about for Spurs and their fans. An overall 8th-position finish and the first time Spurs have missed out on European football since the 2008/2009 season.
The football Spurs played throughout the season was uninspired at best, and they struggled to get into a consistent rhythm throughout the entire season. Spurs had an unprecedented 3 different managers throughout the whole season.
The Italian Antonio Conte started the season in charge and Spurs fans were optimistic following a busy summer transfer window with the likes of Richarlison, Yves Bissouma, Djed Spence and Ivan Perisic all being brought into the club to try and match the system of Antonio Conte. Fans were optimistic following a top 4 finish in the Premier League the previous season and quietly believed that this could be the season that the trophy drought was finally lifted
However, as is a common theme with Tottenham and their managers things just didn’t work out. Star signing Richarlision failed to have a real impact while Spurs star Heung-Min Son struggled to regain the scintillating form that saw him share the golden boot with Liverpool’s Mohammed Salah in the 21/22 PL season and Conte’s reluctance to adapt and change consistently saw the team struggle in games and left Spurs fans frustrated and bored at times.
Eventually, Conte’s reign came to an end following an outrageous outburst after Spurs failed to protect a 2-goal cushion against Southampton. Christan Stellini was then appointed until the end of the season however this didn’t last too long before he was also sacked following a humiliating 6-1 defeat to Newcastle. Ryan Mason was then placed in charge until the end of the season and things remained this way until the 6th of June when Ange Postecoglou was appointed Spurs head coach. Many fans were looking around wondering if Postecoglou was the right man for the job. But what exactly does Postecoglou bring to Spurs?
Ange Postcoglou is one of the most experienced managers in the entire premier league boasting an impressive 27 years of experience and has won 21 trophies in his career to date. He brings a real passion and drive to win and mostly importantly goals and a lot of them.
Last season Celtic scored a remarkable 114 goals and conceded only 34 goals in total. And while the Premier League is a humongous step up compared to the premier league however wherever he has followed success, change and goals have followed Postecoglou wherever he has decided to go.
Having won titles in Australia, Japan and Scotland. And Postecoglou has already made two signings having signed Keeper Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli with Hugo Lloris likely moving on this summer after 11 years at the club. Spurs have also signed superstar James Maddison from Leicester a signing Spurs fans have been crying out for in an aim to improve Spurs’ attacking fluidity and to reduce the creative workload of Spurs striker Harry Kane while also pitching in by scoring some goals of his own.
A big summer is incoming for Spurs and there is bound to be a lot of outgoings and incomings. We really don’t know what Spurs we are going to see at the beginning season but one thing is for sure all eyes will be on Tottenham and Postecoglou is aiming to once again prove the doubters wrong as he has done his entire career. The transfer window has just begun and There is going to be a lot more activity. Stay tuned.
