The Golden State Warriors plan to run it back with the core group that won four titles in eight seasons from 2015-2022.
Forward Draymond Green, one of the best defenders in the league and four-time All-Star, plans to sign a four-year, $100 million contract with the Warriors, a person familiar with the agreement told USA TODAY Sports. The person requested anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly until the deal is official.
The Warriors want to try and win another championship alongside Steph Curry and Klay Thompson.
Green had interest from other teams, including Sacramento, Detroit and Phoenix, but he wanted to return and the Warriors wanted him back − as long as both sides could find common ground on the contract.
Green averaged 8.5 points, 7.2 rebounds and 6.8 assists and shot 52.7% from the field last season, but the Warriors fell short of their goal, losing to the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round one season after winning the title in 2022.
The season got off to a bad start at training camp when Green punched Jordan Poole, who is no longer with the team. He was traded to Washington in the deal that sent Chris Paul to the Warriors, who have experience on their side, but they are an aging team.
