It’s not unusual to see NBA or NFL players excel in more than just one sport.

Athletic traits often translate to multiple sports, and most of them actually grew up playing more than one sport at a time.

That seems to be the case with Cleveland Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell, who shocked everybody in attendance with his power during the home run derby of a recent celebrity softball game.

The talented combo guard knocked several baseballs out of the park, and he was having a lot of fun.

This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, though, as he’s one of the best athletes in the game right now, and he’s also made it more than clear that he’s a diehard New York Mets fan on Twitter.

Notably, Mitchell actually dreamed of being an MLB player when he was growing up.

His father — who was a Minor League player — was a director of player relations for the New York Mets, so he pretty much grew up inside a baseball clubhouse and was even a prominent prospect in high school.

His baseball dreams and career ended after suffering a broken wrist during his sophomore year, so he decided to stick to hoops.

In hindsight, that might be the wisest decision he could’ve made, as he’s already earned a lot of money from his NBA salary alone, and he figures to cash in on another even bigger contract once he’s eligible for that.
