The Oklahoma City Thunder have made a move into the top 10, acquiring Davis Bertans and the 10th overall pick from the Dallas Mavericks for the 12th overall pick and a trade exception.
With the 10th selection, the Thunder took Cason Wallace, a guard from Kentucky. Wallace averaged 11.7 points, 4.3 assists and 2.0 steals per game during his one year with the Wildcats.
He joins the established backcourt of Josh Giddey and Canadian Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
After swapping for the 12th overall pick, the Mavericks selected centre Dereck Lively II from Duke. The seven-foot-one big man was one of the best defensive players in the country last year, racking up 2.4 blocks per game last season for the Blue Devils.
The Mavericks were able to move off of Davis Bertans’ contract in the deal, getting his $17 million ($16 million in 2024-2025) contract off the books for this upcoming season.
Bertans averaged 4.6 points 1.2 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game last season with Dallas. He was originally acquired in the deal that sent Kristaps Porzingis to Washington during the 2021-2022 season.
