It’s a new day in the storied rivalry between the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears.
And the Packers are 0-2 so far this offseason.
Maybe, Jordan Love will help the Packers stay ahead in the rivalry on the field this season, but his Father’s Day message to Bears fans on Sunday backfired.
“Happy Father’s Day to all the Bears fans out there,” Love posted on social media. “Go Pack go.”
You can’t blame Love and his cheeky smile for trying to incite the rivalry some more this offseason.
But he missed the mark badly.
Maybe, Love was going for something like “Thank you, Bears fans, for all the Father’s Day wishes.”
On Monday, Love tried to explain he was doing a favor for a Bears fans while making the video.
“Was asked to do a special favor for this fan, didn’t think much of it lol,” Love posted on Twitter, “but I see y’all really took it and ran with it. Regardless I hope everyone had a great Fathers Day.”
Love was in France making an appearance at the QB Takeover Football Camp in Antony at the U.S. Metropolitaine Des Transports Paris.
The camp, which was for 10-18-year-olds, was run by FlexWork Sports, a pro athlete youth sports event management and marketing company, according to the Green Bay Press Gazette. The camp is run in collaboration with quarterback trainer Quincy Avery, the founder of Quarterback Takeover.
“This is kinda weird cause he was not talking (expletive) to the Bears,” Avery tweeted. “A dad in a Bears jersey asked him to say Happy Fathers day.”
Either way, Bears and Packers fans are excited for the next phase of their historic rivalry.
Especially after Aaron Rodgers left Green Bay this offseason for the New York Jets.
And especially after a Bears player simply called out Packers fans for being obnoxious and uneducated last week.
“Just the way they’re just frickin’ obnoxious about things that don’t matter,” Bears defensive tackle Justin Jones said.
“Half of them don’t even know football. It’s so weird to me. I want to go out there and beat the hell out of them on their field. I want to hear the boos. That’s what I look forward to.”
The Bears will host the Packers at Soldier Field on Sept. 10 to begin the 2023 NFL season, looking to make up some major ground in the series.
During Rodgers’ 15 seasons as Packers starter, the Bears only beat Green Bay five times.
Love will get his first chance to feel the rivalry as Green Bay’s new starting quarterback against Bears starter Justin Fields, entering his third NFL season.
“I think we’ve got a great team,” Love said in a Monday story published by Madison.com.
“I think we have a good offense, a young offense. We have a lot of work to keep putting in, keep building together. And I think we have a really good defense. Once we get everybody back and healthy, we’ll be really good. I think we’ve got playmakers on offense. I think all the weapons we have at receiver, tight end and running back, we’ve got guys who can make plays. … I think once everybody gets rolling, gets comfortable with the offense and being where they need to be every play, the sky’s the limit for us.”
