History could be made in the NBA on Monday night as the Denver Nuggets are going after their first-ever world championship in Game 5 of the NBA Finals versus the Miami Heat.
In recent years, most of the Larry O’Brien Trophies have been won by squads such as the Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors, and San Antonio Spurs, leading many to accuse the league of being rigged in favor of big markets and marquee teams.
But commentator Colin Cowherd says that accusation is nothing to believe, as he points out that every major sports league has had approximately the same number of champions for the last several decades.
“Nothing is rigged, hate to break it to you… Denver has rolled and they are mowing over Miami.”

Some may see the Nuggets as a rarity in the sense that they’re a small-market team that has never won anything but is seemingly about to win it all.
However, the fact that the Spurs, a middle-market team that doesn’t exactly have a sexy image, has won five titles is proof that the NBA isn’t rigged.
Cowherd pointed out that if the league was rigged, it would have the Lakers and Boston Celtics facing off in the championship series this year in a renewal of arguably the greatest rivalry in all of pro sports.
Such a matchup would’ve garnered much better ratings than this Nuggets-Heat matchup, which would’ve meant a lot more revenue for the league.
Both the Lakers and Celtics reached the conference finals, but the Lakers got swept by the Nuggets while the Celtics went out with a whimper at home in Game 7 versus Miami.
