The cloud of uncertainty hovering over the New York Giants these days has to do with star running back Saquon Barkley’s contract situation.
The team used their franchise tag in order to keep him in the fold for at least one more season, and they have until July 17 to get a new contract done for him.
Until a deal gets done, Barkley will not be allowed to attend workouts or events at the Giants’ facility.
Luckily, analyst Brian Baldinger doesn’t expect Barkley to have to miss any actual games due to his contract situation.
“I expect this thing to be lengthy, but I do believe @saquon will not sit out this season.”

Simply put, Barkley is the Giants’ offense, as they lack any viable threats at the wide receiver position.
After a couple of injury-riddled seasons, he ran for 1,312 yards and 10 touchdowns while adding 338 yards on 57 caught passes in 2022.
He led the team in receptions last season, and needless to say, losing him would be a giant blow for the Giants.
Hoping to diversify their offense, they brought in Darren Waller, a former Pro Bowler, but he is a tight end, and one may not be able to expect him to put up north of 1,000 receiving yards this coming season.
New York already gave a huge new contract to quarterback Daniel Jones, who is a running threat on the ground but has yet to show he can elevate his team with his passing.
They also gave star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence a four-year, $90 million extension, and while they need to do what they can to keep Barkley, perhaps they shouldn’t overpay to do so.
