In its first full season of play, the XFL is having modest success while giving football junkies a way to watch their beloved sport during the NFL‘s offseason.

The XFL features a number of former NFL players and castoffs, and one of them is garnering some interest in the more established league.

Defensive end Freedom Akinmoladun has been invited to minicamps that are being held by the Miami Dolphins and the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.

He was an undrafted rookie in 2019 following four years of college football at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he collected 11.0 sacks and 16.0 tackles for loss in 42 games.

The New York Giants signed him to their practice squad in 2019, and he finished the season with the Cincinnati Bengals, where he got onto the field for his first regular season contest.

Akinmoladun joined the New York Jets’ practice squad late in the 2021 campaign and appeared in one game for them.

He currently plays for the St. Louis BattleHawks, and in 10 games with them, he has posted 14 total tackles (seven solo) and 1.0 sacks.

The Missouri native stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 286 pounds, and he spent last season with the Philadelphia Stars of the USFL.

The Dolphins need some help on their front seven to complement their star duo of Xavien Howard and Jalen Ramsey at cornerback, as they finished toward the bottom of the NFL in passing yards and touchdowns allowed last season.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs are looking to gear up for a run at what would be their third world championship in five seasons.
