Stadium workers cover home plate with a tarp as security keeps a close eye on fans remaining in the stands following the St. Louis Cardinals 5-1 loss the Houston Astros during Game Six of the National League Championship Series October 19, 2005 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri. With the win the Astros won the series 4-2 and advanced to the World Series. The game was the last to be played in the 40 year history of Busch Stadium. After another soul-crushing defeat on Friday night, fans of the St. Louis Cardinals were left wondering when their misery would end.

The team has now lost seven consecutive games and are 13 games under the .500 mark for the first time since 1997.

Never during Yadier Molina’s career were the Cardinals this far under .500.

Fans worst fears became reality when the Detroit Tigers bounced back from a late deficit to stun the Cardinals with a 5-4 comeback win.

On Twitter, MLB insider Bob Nightengale summed up just how bad things have gotten in St. Louis and how frustrated the fanbase has become with their recent skid.

For the first time since 2017, St. Louis is on a seven-game losing skid.

With Friday night’s defeat, the Cardinals fell to 10-23 and remained at the bottom of the National League.

St. Louis is already 10 games back of first place in the NL Central and eight back in the Wild Card race.

After another heart-wrenching defeat, fans once again let the team hear it, booing their Cardinals after they failed to snap their losing skid.

The Cardinals have not had a losing season since 2007.

That year, they finished 78-84 and missed the postseason on the heels of their 2006 World Series run.

But as each day passes, fans become more and more restless.

Things continue to deteriorate for a team that has reached the postseason in four consecutive years.

And things aren’t about to get any easier for the team.

After their series with the Tigers, they’ll have to deal with the Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox, Milwaukee Brewers, and Los Angeles Dodgers.
