After years of ineptitude, it may not be the start of a new era for the New York Jets, but for the first time in a long time, they have lofty goals.

Aaron Rodgers has arrived from the Green Bay Packers to be their quarterback, and he should at least give them a puncher’s chance at reaching the Super Bowl next season.

Over the last couple of years, he has been criticized for supposedly being more concerned with his own individual agenda over that of his team.

But he is participating in his team’s voluntary workouts for the first time in a while, and Jets head coach Robert Saleh says he has “a fire in his eyes,” according to Jets insider Rich Cimini.

Sometimes a change of scenery can work wonders on a veteran such as Rodgers, especially when things became stale at his previous stop.

After the Packers traded All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams last offseason, they sagged to an 8-9 finish last season, due chiefly to an anemic offense, and Rodgers saw his numbers drop across the board.

But in New York, he will be part of a team that has a healthy mix of young studs and grizzled, productive veterans.

He will have the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year and Defensive Rookie of the Year by his side in wide receiver Garrett Wilson and cornerback Sauce Gardner, respectively, as well as two former Packers wideouts in Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb.

In addition, Nathaniel Hackett will be Rodgers’ offensive coordinator next season in New York, just as he was in Green Bay from 2019 to 2021.
