The Los Angeles Lakers didn’t hesitate to give up valuable assets to land Anthony Davis as soon as he became available.
Davis has everything to be the perfect sidekick to LeBron James, and he was young enough to carry the torch once “The King” wasn’t in the league anymore.
The early returns were fantastic, as he was instrumental in helping the team win an NBA championship for the first time in more than a decade.
However, he hasn’t been able to replicate that impact ever since.
Even so, LeBron still believes Davis’ number will hang high in the Crypto.com Arena rafters once it’s all said and done.
“AD will be up there when he’s done playing. The number 3 will be up in the rafters” 🤝

Truth be told, Davis probably hasn’t done enough to earn that honor.
The Lakers have had nothing but elite talent wearing that purple and gold jersey.
Some might argue that Davis is one of the most talented players of all time, he’s only had one truly inspired season with the team, which came in the championship run of 2020.
Of course, his numbers have always been solid, but he’s failed to stay on the court more often than not.
On top of that, the Lakers couldn’t even get past the first round of the playoffs (or even make the postseason) in two of three seasons before this year.
At 30 years old, Davis is still young enough to turn that narrative around and join the Mt. Rushmore of former Laker greats.
It’s one thing to be an All-NBA caliber player in the prime years of your career, but it’s another to have your jersey hanging in the rafters.
Davis still has work to do on that front, but perhaps a championship run in 2023 would move him a step closer.
