Avalanche’s Cogliano has fractured neck from Eberle’s Game 6 hit, out indefinitely

The Colorado Avalanche will be without forward Andrew Cogliano for the foreseeable future after he suffered a fractured neck in Friday night’s Game 6 against the Seattle Kraken.

Cogliano suffered the injury on a hit from behind from Kraken forward Jordan Eberle late in the second period. Eberle was assessed a two-minute minor for boarding after the play and will not receive supplemental discipline.

Incredibly, Cogliano returned and played the remainder of the game. He finished the contest with 11:01 of ice time in the Avalanche’s 4-1 win.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman is reporting that the injury is a fracture of the C5 Lamina. He will be out of the lineup indefinitely.

Coglinao had not registered a point in the opening round series after suiting up for four of the six contests. In 79 games for the Avalanche in the regular season, he had 10 goals and 19 points.

You can watch the Kraken and Avalanche face off in a winner take all Game 7 live on Sportsnet Sunday at 9:30 p.m. ET / 6:30 p.m. PT.
