Fans of the Cleveland Cavaliers really aren’t happy with how the postseason went.
They thought that their team had a chance at going far, perhaps to the Eastern Conference Finals and beyond.
In the end, they were eaten up by the New York Knicks and didn’t even make the second round.
Despite that, Donovan Mitchell had a season that should be celebrated.
In 2022-23, his first season with the Cavaliers, Mitchell averaged 28.3 points per game, which is a career-high.
But that’s not the end of what he did this season.
Donovan Mitchell this season:
— 28.3 PPG (career-high)
— 3.6 3PM (career-high)
— Top 10 in points and threes
— Cavs record for 3s in a season
— Most 30-point games by a Cav since LeBron

Mitchell also put up 3.5 threes a game, another career-high, and was in the top ten in points and threes and earned a Cavaliers record for threes in a season.
Additionally, Mitchell had the most 30-point games by a Cavalier since LeBron James and the most 40-point games in a season.
Mitchell was acquired by the Cavaliers last summer in a blockbuster trade that immediately enhanced their chances.
He was coming to a team that already had a strong starting unit featuring Darius Garland, Evan Mobley, and Jarrett Allen.
Mitchell was seen as the missing piece that could make them Finals contenders.
It turns out that the team needs more than just Mitchell.
As great as he is, the roster is thin beyond the starting five and they ran into a bunch of problems in the playoffs.
Yet, even though the New York Knicks easily dismantled the Cavaliers, there is still reason to believe the future is bright.
There is no doubt that Mitchell is the type of player that the team can and should be built around.
