Anthony Edwards was cited for assault after he swung a chair around in frustration in Denver on Tuesday when the Minnesota Timberwolves lost to the Denver Nuggets at Ball Arena, USA TODAY Sports has confirmed.
Edwards was cited with two misdemeanor counts of third-degree assault for “knowingly or recklessly” causing bodily injury, according to Denver police. The All-Star guard allegedly hit two women who were working at the game when he flung the folding chair in a circle while walking off the court to the locker room. Both employees were reported to have suffered injuries that were not serious.
TMZ was first to report the news that Edwards was cited.
He is summoned to appear in court on June 9. If convicted, he could face up to 18 months in jail and a $1,000 fine.
“We are aware of the alleged incident regarding Anthony Edwards following Game 5 in Denver and are in the process of gathering more information,” the Timberwolves said in a statement. “We have no further comment at this moment.”
Edwards led the team with 29 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in the 112-109 loss, which ended the Timberwolves’ season.
