The American League East division has always been considered one of, if not the most competitive division in Major League Baseball.

There are six MLB divisions, three in the American League and three in the National League.

While other divisions certainly have more than their fair share of competition, the AL East is usually the one that grabs the most headlines.

This season, there is a reason for that.

Entering today, every team in the AL East has a winning record, including the last-place Boston Red Sox.

On Twitter, a fan pointed out just how dominant the division was last year and how it could prove to be even better this season.

Last season, the top four teams in the division finished above the .500 mark.

The New York Yankees came out on top with 99 wins, while the Toronto Blue Jays won 92.

The Tampa Bay Rays won 86 games while the Baltimore Orioles won 83.

Only the Red Sox finished below .500 last year, winning 78 games.

All five teams won a combined 438 games in 2022, which is the record for the most cumulative wins by a five-team division.

With the more balanced schedule and every team playing each other at least once in 2023, it’s very possible that this year’s AL East may be on their way to shattering that record.

A case could even be made that there is not a single bad team in the AL East.

With all five teams over the .500 mark and right in the thick of the playoffs race just a few weeks into the season, things could get interesting as the season progresses.
