A property on Maryland’s Eastern Shore takes in expansive waterfront views and features a modernized historic home and a collection of separate accessory buildings.

Situated on the elevated Widgeon Point, the 20-acre estate, accessed by a gate flanked by Bevolo gas lamp-topped columns, leads to a point overlooking Trippe Creek, which sits off the Tred Avon River. Cobblestone paths and covered walkways meander through the landscaped grounds, dotted with ornamental trees and private gardens.

The original four-bedroom, 4.5-bathroom main home, was built in 1938 by Sylvia and John Robinson, prominent society figures in Easton, Maryland. The current owner purchased the property in 2010 and spent more than three years on renovations and additions, installing new wiring, plumbing, insulation and a roof, made of a composite of slate and sand and seam.

Other modern additions include Tennessee stone and black walnut floors, custom copper-plated hardware and custom millwork and built-ins throughout the home. There are high ceilings and views of the creek from Loewen doors and windows.

Southwest-facing spots capture stunning sunsets. “Everywhere you look you have views of the water,” said listing agent Cornelia Heckenbach of Long and Foster Real Estate.

The large kitchen comes with two hammered copper sinks and custom made copper exhaust fan, granite countertops and Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances. One guest bathroom was outfitted with a rare granite, with only four slabs available and used in the house, Heckenbach said. The fireplaces have custom-made gas inserts.

The home is served by a geothermal heating and cooling system with electric backup heat, as well as a reverse osmosis and water softener and a whole-house audio system.

The property also has several accessory buildings, including a separate two-bedroom, two-bathroom studio with a patio. A newly-constructed, detached three-car garage has an apartment at the top, which features a bedroom with a balcony overlooking a pond. Adjacent to the saltwater pool is a new pool house with a full kitchen and bathroom, along with a screened porch. All the buildings are reached from the main house by newly-constructed covered breezeways with insulated roofs that could be enclosed if desired.

There’s also a separate two-bedroom, two-bathroom caretaker’s cottage that sits on a separate part of the property and was renovated in 2018, featuring a screened porch and one-car garage and carport. There are two barns, one with insulation and heating, as well as a full bath and dog washing area and room for boat and RV storage. A dock on the creek has a remote-controlled boat lift.

The property at 5808 Widgeon Point Lane in Oxford, Maryland is listed for $12.15 million.

“It could be a wonderful family compound for someone who wants privacy,” Heckenbach said.
