Some concerning news surfaced recently about ESPN being on the verge of laying off a lot of employees, which would include some big-name media members getting sent packing.
These kinds of layoffs have happened more than once in the past, with some surprising names being given their walking papers, so this time around could be more of the same as the sports giant tries to cut some corners to save some money or head in another direction.
Although a list of people that will be laid off hasn’t publicly been released, one media personality has reportedly agreed to a new deal with ESPN, which puts him on the safe list.
According to Andrew Marchand of the New York Post, current NFL analyst and former Dallas Cowboys star Marcus Spears won’t be going anywhere after getting a lucrative deal to stay at ESPN.

Pains me to see layoffs period, but glad for Swagu, always thoughtful analysis and endless battles with Stephen A and Dan Orlovsky is always must-see TV

Him and @danorlovsky7 are the only reason I tune into ESPN anymore. Them two together always bring it.

The 40-year-old has made quite an impression since becoming an on-air personality for ESPN, as he’s a fan favorite, which makes it, not all that surprising that he’ll be retained rather than let go.
With Spears getting the thumbs up with a four-year deal, it’ll be interesting to see which analysts and on-air personalities will ultimately be given the boot and when that may happen.
Mina Kimes remains unsigned by the network despite her popularity among fans, so her fate on ESPN remains in the air moving forward, even though fans and colleagues seem to support her.
