The New York Jets fully expect Aaron Rodgers to be their starting quarterback next season, but the weeks go by, and that still hasn’t happened.
The four-time MVP has let the Green Bay Packers know that he wants to play in New York, and it doesn’t seem like his current team is determined to keep him hostage.
However, that doesn’t mean he gets to call the shots, and they’ll only let him go if the Jets meet their asking price.
Nonetheless, Rodgers’ alleged debate of whether retire or keep playing was a bit of a breaking point in the negotiations, and it’s what’s holding the trade up as of now, according to a report by Mike McDaniel of Sports Illustrated.

Of course, that led to some mixed takes on social media.
Something stalled way before that. That was one of his points, that the delay wasn’t on him it was that the packers wanted more compensation.

The fact this came out after he had meeting with Jets makes me think him and Jets did that message on purpose to squeeze the Packers.

Crazy to think the Jets won’t trade 2 2nd round picks this season & 1 1st round pick in 2024 for Aaron Rodgers? Seems like a fair trade for a team that desperately needs a solid QB right now.

BREAKING: Rodgers still with Packers, still pouting. Tune in tomorrow when we run exactly the same story for the 4,000th time.

That’s damn near what a tagged Lamar Jackson would cost lol
What the hell is Gute thinking?

Per the report, Rodgers’ admission of considering retirement has made the Jets’ ownership draw a line in the sand.
They don’t want to meet the Packers’ conditions of giving up a first and second-round pick for a guy that might not even want to play in 2024.
Rodgers’ words reportedly backfired and, ironically, are the only thing that kept the Jets from going all-in and just caving into the Packers’ demands.
This makes perfect sense, as the Jets would then be in this very same position again next season, minus a couple of valuable draft picks.
A one-year rental of Aaron Rodgers isn’t the worst idea, either, but it would most definitely lower his value in any potential transaction.
So, don’t expect this standstill to finish any time soon, it seems.
