The San Francisco 49ers are currently in a championship window, with Kyle Shanahan’s squad being one of the best all-around teams in the NFL.

Despite being stacked on both sides of the football, the quarterback position has been an area of concern, and that will be taken to another level in 2023, with Jimmy Garoppolo leaving for the Las Vegas Raiders and Brock Purdy on the mend.

With Garoppolo gone and no timetable for Purdy’s return to the field, the 49ers signed veteran quarterback Sam Darnold to bolster the quarterback room.

At this point, the 49ers may have lost faith in Trey Lance, who will be ready for Week 1 but may not have the coaching staff’s confidence.

On a recent appearance on The Herd with Colin Cowherd, Jordan Palmer boldly claimed that he thinks Darnold has as good a chance as any quarterback in the league to win the Super Bowl.

It’s not beyond the realm of possibility that Lance becomes the Week 1 starter for the 49ers.

As Cowherd pointed out, San Francisco may be shopping Lance to make Darnold the starter until Purdy returns from his injury in the NFC Championship Game.

If Shanahan does go with Darnold, he’ll have more weapons at his disposal than he ever has during his NFL career, which bodes well for him to have his best season yet.

However, Darnold has yet to live up to expectations since the New York Jets drafted him out of USC, and the odds will be against him as the pressure will be on to produce right away next season.
