Tiger Woods left disappointed after withdrawing from Masters with injury

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Tiger Woods has withdrawn from the Masters due to injury.

An announcement from Augusta National made the news official at 7:15 a.m. ET.

Woods made the cut on the number at the Masters after rounds of 74-73 left him at 3 over. It was his 23rd made-cut in a row at the tournament, tying him for the all-time record.

But Woods never looked comfortable, health-wise, this week. His limp became more pronounced through a water-logged Saturday, with temperatures hovering around 6C through the day and relentless rain falling.

“I am disappointed to have to WD this morning due to reaggravating my plantar fasciitis,” Woods wrote on Twitter. “Thank you to the fans to The Masters who have shown me so much love and support. Good luck to the players today!”

Woods was set to return for 30 holes of golf Sunday but was in last place amongst those who made the cut. He was 9 over after making back-to-back double bogeys before play was halted.

The five-time Masters winner also made the cut at the Genesis Invitational – the event he hosts in California – earlier this year, finishing tied for 45th.

Woods, just 14 months removed from a horrific car accident, made the cut at the Masters in 2022. He also found the weekend at the PGA Championship last year but withdrew after three rounds. He did not play the U.S. Open and missed the cut at The Open Championship at St. Andrews.

Woods admitted in his pre-tournament press conference on Tuesday he wasn’t sure if his body would allow him to continue to compete at Augusta National – one of the hilliest layouts on the PGA Tour – much longer.

“I don’t know how many more I have in me,” said Woods. “So just to be able to appreciate the time that I have here and cherish the memories.”

The next major on the schedule is the PGA Championship, set for May 18-21 at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York.
