Brighton should have had penalty at Tottenham, admits PGMOL | Football News

Sky Sports News understands the PGMOL has admitted a mistake was made by the match officials and VAR when not awarding a penalty to Brighton in Sunday’s Premier League game against Tottenham.

With the score level at 1-1, Kaoru Mitoma appeared to be caught by Pierre-Emile Hoijberg inside the box – referee Stuart Attwell waived away Brighton’s appeals for a spot-kick and it was looked at quickly by VAR Michael Salisbury at Stockley Park.

It was one of three strong penalty claims by Brighton – none of which were awarded to the visitors – in a feisty game that Tottenham won 2-1 to keep themselves in the Champions League hunt. Defeat for Brighton saw them drop down to seventh.

Brighton are not happy with the decision-making during Saturday’s game and are demanding an explanation from PGMOL.

The PGMOL has apologised for Brighton for not awarding them the penalty when Mitoma was fouled – this is the third apology Brighton have been given by PGMOL this season for decisions made on the field.

Sky Sports News has contacted PGMOL for comment.
