Throughout nearly all of Wednesday night’s game between the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers, it seemed like the Lakers could never get ahead.

Ultimately, this led to a tough 126-118 loss.

Many Lakers fans were hoping that their team could pull out a big win, especially over their age-old rivals.

But there were many who were actually happy that the Lakers lost.

Why?

As Lakers Lead reminded people on Twitter, the Clippers are now the fifth seed in the West following their win, meaning they are set to take on the surging Phoenix Suns in the first round of the playoffs.

Because the Western Conference is so competitive and the standings are so tight, the Clippers leapt to fifth place after the game and now sit ahead of the Golden State Warriors and the Lakers.

That means they are going to play against the fourth-seeded Suns when the playoffs begin if the standings don’t change again by then.

There were actually many Lakers followers hoping the team wouldn’t win on Wednesday because they fear what Kevin Durant and his Suns can do.

However, now the Lakers are still in seventh place in their conference with just two more games to play.

Can they overtake the Warriors with such little time left?

That’s the hope because if they are the seventh seed next week they will have to participate in the play-in games.

That means they run the risk of losing those and not making the playoffs at all.

Their chances of playing the Suns in the opening round are nearly gone but the Lakers’ chances of losing in the play-in games remain.
