When Jalen Hurts became the starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles during the 2020 season, there were plenty of people who doubted he could be the team’s franchise signal-caller moving forward.

But he answered his critics in a big way this past season by getting named to his first Pro Bowl and leading the Eagles to the Super Bowl, where they narrowly lost to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Hurts’ rookie contract is nearing its end, and he is on his way to earning a gigantic payday on his next contract, which could earn him $195 million over four years, as shared by PFF.

Hurts being doubted is nothing new, as he was benched during his sophomore season with the University of Alabama during the national championship game in favor of Tua Tagovailoa.

Tagovailoa is an emerging quarterback now for the Miami Dolphins, but most would agree that Hurts is better, at least right now.

This past season, he put up 3,701 passing yards, 22 passing touchdowns, 760 rushing yards, and 13 rushing touchdowns.

Unfortunately, Philly’s prospects for the 2023 season look weaker after it lost defensive tackle Javon Hargrave and Pro Bowl running back Miles Sanders this offseason.

With the Dallas Cowboys making a couple of notable additions, the Eagles are not a lock to win the NFC East again, and they could be left to fight for a Wild Card playoff spot.

But at least with the emerging Hurts and a defense that should still be solid, there seems to be very little chance of them missing the playoffs next season.
