The LSU Tigers defeated the Iowa Hawkeyes 102-85 on Sunday to win the first NCAA National Championship in program history.
Led by 21 points from Alexis Morris and a 15-point double-double from star forward Angel Reese, Kim Mulkey’s squad was able to control most of the game en route to hoisting the trophy.
The Tigers were also able to make life difficult on Hawkeyes phenom Caitlin Clark, limiting the sensational guard to 25 points on 7-of-17 shooting. Clark came into the final of back-to-back 40-point games including a 41-point performance against the undefeated Sout Carolina Gamecocks in Friday’s semifinals.
With her 30, Clark did still set the NCAA record for most points in a single tournament.

The refereeing was a large talking point throughout the game, as many of Iowa’s stars including Clark dealt with foul trouble all game. There was also a technical foul called on Clark for throwing a ball to the baseline in frustration.
But in the end LSU’s size and strength was able to overwhelm Iowa on the inside, and bring home the first basketball national championship in LSU history.
