The Atlanta Falcons continue to add to their defensive front. On Wednesday, the Falcons signed defensive end Calais Campbell to a one-year deal.

Campbell, 36, is a six-time Pro Bowler and a 2017 first-team All-Pro selection. He spent the last three seasons with the Baltimore Ravens. In 15 NFL seasons, Campbell has recorded 809 tackles, 100 sacks, 57 pass deflections, 16 forced fumbles and three interceptions.

The Falcons will lean on his veteran experience. Campbell will help mentor young pass rushers in Arnold Ebiketie and DeAngelo Malone. Both players are entering their second NFL season after being selected in the 2022 NFL draft.

According to NFL Media insider Ian Rapport, Campbell was interested in the Falcons organizational culture. Campbell spoke with Falcons owner Arthur Blank about opportunities to provide leadership, charity efforts and community involvement.

In 2019, Campbell won the NFL’s Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. He was also named the Bart Starr Award recipient. Both honors recognize a player for their involvement in the community on and off the field.

Atlanta will feature a new defensive scheme next season. Ryan Nielsen enters his first season as defensive coordinator after replacing Dean Pees, who retired this offseason. Nielsen is expected utilize multiple schemes and defensive alignments.

The Falcons have added key defensive veterans this offseason. Campbell joins new additions in safety Jessie Bates III, defensive tackle David Onyemata and outside linebacker Kaden Elliss. Atlanta also re-signed defensive end Lorenzo Carter as well.
