Football fans have been waiting to see what legendary quarterback Tom Brady would do next after retiring from the NFL for a second time.
Would he become a commentator for the NFL on Fox, as expected?
Would he go into business?
Would he unretire once again and play another season in the NFL?
As of Thursday, Brady has decided to make a foray into ownership when he purchased a stake in the defending WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces.
The seven-time Super Bowl champion took to Twitter to send a message to fans.

“It was a matter of time before I was back in the building with some of the greatest athletes in the world, and I grew up with three older sisters,” said Brady. “They were all incredible athletes in their own right. They were role models to me. It’s where my love of women’s sports began. … I admire all the work the Aces players and staff and what the WNBA continues to do to grow the sport and to empower the future generations of female athletes.”
This was an unexpected move, as Brady has never been associated with the sport of basketball.
He grew up in San Mateo, Calif., which is just minutes away from San Francisco, and he was reportedly a big fan of the San Francisco 49ers and their own legendary QB, Joe Montana, growing up.
At Junipero Serra High School, Brady played basketball and baseball in addition to football, and although he had potential as a catcher in baseball, scouts did not notice him much on the hardwood.
Interestingly, Brady was a fan of not only the Los Angeles Lakers but also the Boston Celtics, the two teams that have formed the greatest rivalry in basketball history.
The Aces are owned by Mark Davis, who also owns the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders, and prior to Brady’s retirement, there were some whispers that perhaps he could play for them.
Given Brady’s great competitive spirit, perhaps another return to pro football shouldn’t be ruled out for at least a little while.
