Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic picked up his 14th technical foul of the season on Sunday, meaning he’s just two technicals away from being handed a one-game suspension by the league.

The good news for Dallas is that each player’s technical foul count resets in the postseason.

For that reason, Doncic isn’t currently in danger of missing any playoff games.

If he were to accumulate seven technicals in the playoffs alone, he’d be suspended for a game, but that’s not a concern right now.

Still, the Mavs are certainly hoping that Doncic won’t earn a suspension in the regular season, as they have a ton to play for currently.

If the regular season ended today, Dallas would find itself in the play-in tournament, which definitely isn’t an ideal place to be.

That’s especially true since some other teams currently in the play-in field — particularly the Los Angeles Clippers — are dangerous and full of talent.

Without a doubt, the Mavs would prefer to finish no lower than sixth in the Western Conference, as a sixth-place finish would ensure a direct trip to the first round of the playoffs.

Doncic’s availability is going to be key to that goal, so the team has no room for a possible one-game suspension.

The four-time All-Star is averaging 33.4 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 8.1 assists per game this season, continuing to prove that he’s one of the best offensive players in the entire league.

After reaching the Western Conference Finals last season, Dallas is looking to go on an even deeper run this season.
