When the Washington Commanders released quarterback Carson Wentz just days ago, many felt his NFL career was all but over.

He has fallen hard ever since being the starting QB for the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles for the first 13 games of the 2017 season before tearing his ACL.

But Wentz is just 30 years of age, and NFL insider Ian Rapoport said he saw Wentz in Indianapolis, where the NFL Scouting Combine has taken place, talking to his agents, and that Wentz is open to different options so that his career can continue.

Wentz was the second pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, and after a somewhat rocky rookie year, he took off in 2017.

He threw for 3,296 yards and 33 touchdowns that year before his knee injury, and that production earned him a spot in the Pro Bowl.

But he could only sit and watch as Nick Foles led the Eagles to their first Super Bowl win.

Since then, Wentz has struggled with injuries, accusations of selfishness and multiple benchings.

This season, he went 2-5 in seven starts with the Commanders, and after he suffered an injury and was replaced by Taylor Heinicke, they started to play much better football, particularly on offense.

it looks likely that Wentz’s days as a QB1 in the NFL are over, but perhaps he would make a very nice backup QB for a team if he is willing to handle such a demotion.

Accepting such a role could add several more years to his career and perhaps even give him another shot at a world championship.
