Bobby Wagner’s stay with the Los Angeles Rams has met its end sooner than either side likely expected.
Wagner and the team mutually agreed to part ways, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Thursday.
The 11-year veteran was only one year into a five-year, $50 million deal signed with the Rams last offseason.
Wagner, 32, was released by the Seattle Seahawks last March after a 10-year run in which he notched eight Pro Bowl berths, six All-Pro nods and a Super Bowl title. He became a linchpin of the franchise’s “Legion of Boom”-era defenses and was selected as a member of the NFL’s All-Decade Team for the 2010s.

Wagner maintained a high level of play in his abbreviated Los Angeles homecoming, netting a second-team All-Pro berth and rarely coming off the field as he played 99.17% of the team’s defensive snaps. But the Rams struggled to a 5-12 record – the worst mark for a defending Super Bowl champion in league history – amid a rash of injuries.
