Someday a book about Kevin Durant’s time with the Brooklyn Nets will be written and it is sure to be fascinating.
Despite a lot of promise and tons of great talent, the team never came close to its potential.
The Nets have completely transformed, fallen short, and then transformed again within just a few seasons.

Now that Durant is with the Phoenix Suns, he is spending some time thinking about all that has come before.
In an introductory press conference, Durant touched upon his experience with the Nets.
“I built a family over there, ” Durant said, commenting on how much he and his former teammates loved the grind and the hard work it takes to build a special team.
Durant was introspective and honest, which are two things he has been many times before.
But Durant was also openly emotional, briefly choking up as he reflected on his Nets team.
That is a side of Durant we rarely see.
It’s also somewhat surprising since it was Durant himself who chose to depart from the Nets and a lot of people assumed he was terribly unhappy in Brooklyn.
But no matter how he felt about the team’s unmet promise, it’s clear that he cares deeply about the men that he played with.
Durant stands to find great success now that he is with the Suns but he obviously wanted to do more when he was with Brooklyn.
Fans of that team will always look at the Durant chapter of the Nets and wonder about what could have been.
This part of the team’s history is over but it will obviously mean a lot to Durant forever.
