Award-winning chef and restaurateur Marcus Samuelsson is opening a restaurant in the Old Fourth Ward in March, as first reported by the Atlanta Business Chronicle. But now there are more details on what’s in store for the chef’s latest restaurant.
Taking over the former Adele’s restaurant space, next door to Biggerstaff Brewing Company and Staplehouse on Edgewood Avenue, Marcus Bar and Grille will serve fresh oysters, a selection of steaks, live-fire dishes, and barbecue plates, and some of the Samuelsson’s best known dishes from his cookbooks, like brown sugar wings and Old Bay crab cakes. Samuelsson tapped former Adele’s Atlanta chef Hannah Young to lead the kitchen at Marcus Bar and Grille. The restaurant will open daily for dinner, and eventually offer brunch on the weekends.
In addition to the dining room and bar and seating on the front patio, Marcus Bar and Grille will also feature a private dining room in the back of the restaurant fashioned after a hip-hop recording studio, complete with vintage albums and art hanging on the walls.
“Atlanta is a world-class metropolis of Black culture and a city I have long loved through its music, film, arts and, of course, food,” Samuelsson says in a press release of opening his first restaurant in the city.
Marcus Bar and Grille joins a collection of restaurants now owned by Samuelsson and his eponymous restaurant group, including Red Rooster and Ginny’s Supper Club in Harlem, locations of Streetbird, and Norda Bar and Grille in Sweden and Norway.
Eater reached out to representatives for Samuelsson for more information on Marcus Bar and Grille.
The Atlanta location of Adele’s closed late last year after just nine months on Edgewood Avenue. Representatives for the restaurant declined to provide a reason for the sudden closure. The original location in Nashville remains open. Red Pebbles Hospitality, the group behind Adele’s, also owns two locations of pizzeria and Italian restaurant Emmy Squared in Glenwood Park and along the Marietta Street Artery.
