Reports: NBA launching review of Payton trade after Warriors make complaint

The status of the Gary Payton II trade from Portland took a turn on Sunday when Shams Charania reported that the Golden State Warriors had filed a complaint with the NBA over “potential misleading by the Blazers.”

Separately, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted that the Warriors are accusing the Blazers of withholding medical information regarding Payton II prior to the trade taking place.

Payton II was part of a four-team deal made prior to the NBA trade deadline on Thursday, but failed a team physical with the Warriors on Friday. He had undergone surgery on an abdominal issue over the off-season, but lingering effects kept him out for almost the first half of the season.

The Warriors are reportedly facing a 9:30 p.m. ET Sunday deadline to determine whether they want to proceed or terminate the deal.
