The Seattle Seahawks have to be pleasantly surprised with how well quarterback Geno Smith played this season.

He stepped in as a replacement for Russell Wilson and had the best season of his career.

Smith threw for 4,282 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.

He also led the league in completion percentage at 69.8%.

Smith was a big reason for Seattle returning to the playoffs, but know he is headed for free agency.

There is no question that both the Seahawks and Smith are hoping to get a deal done.

He has proven to be a Pro Bowl-caliber quarterback, and now is looking to get paid like one.

With Smith already 32 years old it will be interesting to see what type of contract he demands.

Also, the Seahawks have the fifth and 20th overall picks in the NFL draft.

They could use one of those picks to draft their quarterback of the future and use Smith as a bridge option.

Even though he performed much better than a bridge QB, he is not the long-term option.

The resurrection of Smith’s career has been nothing short of amazing.

He was an afterthought in the NFL for the past seven or so seasons.

After struggling with the New York Jets his first two seasons, he never got another chance as a starter.

That is why many people were expecting the Seahawks to be one of the worst teams in the league this past season.

But, simply due to the play of Smith, Seattle made the playoffs.

He is deserving of a lucrative contract, and it will be interesting to see how many years he gets on the deal.
