The Columbus Blue Jackets claimed centre Lane Pederson off waivers from the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday.
The move came after Columbus placed left winger Gustav Nyquist on injured reserve. Nyquist sustained an upper-body injury during Wednesday’s 3-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers and will be out indefinitely.

Pederson had one goal and two assists in 11 games with Vancouver this season, plus 17 goals and seven assists in 22 games with the Abbotsford Canucks and Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League.
The 25-year-old from Saskatoon signed as an undrafted free agent with the Arizona Coyotes in 2016. He was traded twice in 2022: first in July from the San Jose Sharks to the Carolina Hurricanes along with star defenceman Brent Burns and then again in October to the Canucks along with defenceman Ethan Bear.
Pederson has two goals and six assists in 55 career games over three seasons with the Coyotes, Sharks and Canucks.
The Blue Jackets (15-31-3) are last in the Eastern Conference standings and visit the Seattle Kraken on Saturday.
