Lightning’s Steven Stamkos scores 500th career NHL goal vs. Canucks


Tampa Bay Lightning star Steven Stamkos has joined the 500-goal club.

The Lightning captain became the 47th player in NHL history to reach 500 goals for his career when he scored in the first period against the host Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday night.

Coincidentally, the 32-year-old Stamkos got his 499th at home during a 5-4 win over the visiting Canucks this past Thursday.

The native of Markham, Ont., now has 500 goals and 522 assists for 1,022 points in his 965-game NHL career, all with the Lightning.

Tampa picked the Sarnia Sting product first overall in the 2008 NHL Draft.

Stamkos is a seven-time NHL All-Star and has won two Stanley Cups.

Stamkos has 19 goals and 32 assists for 51 points in 43 games this season.
