The MLB universe is standing behind Chicago White Sox closer Liam Hendriks.

The talented ninth-inning stopper announced the beginning of treatment for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

According to the Mayo Clinic, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma “is a type of cancer that begins in your lymphatic system, which is part of the body’s germ-fighting immune system. In non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, white blood cells called lymphocytes grow abnormally and can form growths (tumors) throughout the body.”

Hundreds of people, from fellow players to fans and analysts have expressed their support for Hendriks via Twitter.

The player himself confessed hearing the word “cancer” came as a shock to him, but he will battle it out with his own strength and that of his loved ones.

“Recently I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Hearing the word ‘Cancer’ came as a shock to my wife and I, as it does to millions of families each year. However, I am resolved to embrace the fight and overcome this new challenge with the same determination I have used when facing other obstacles in my life.

“My treatment begins tomorrow, and I am confident that I will make a full recovery and be back on the mound as soon as possible. I know with the support of my wife, my family, my teammates, and the Chicago White Sox organization, along with the treatment and care from my doctors, I will get through this.”

Hendriks is 33, and has been with the White Sox since 2021.

Last season, he had a 2.81 ERA in 57.2 innings.

He will be out indefinitely while he prepares for the biggest battle of his life.
