Liverpool have been dealt a huge blow with centre-back Virgil van Dijk set to be out for longer than expected after the defender was substituted at half-time in Monday’s game against Brentford.
Jurgen Klopp’s team do not return to the Premier League until the 14th of January, when they will take on Brighton, but do have a game in the FA Cup this Saturday.
A time scale has not been put on the Van Dijk’s injury but the severity of it will likely be revealed in Klopp’s pre-match press conference this Friday.
Liverpool other fit centre-backs include Joel Matip, Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez and Nathaniel Philips.
Klopp did confirm on Monday that the defender did feel an issue in his hamstring, the Liverpool boss said: “Virgil felt a little bit the muscle and said it is fine, and he is a very good judge of these kind of things. But I didn’t want to take any risks.

“The physios looked quite happy when I said we don’t take risks. It’s not an injury, he just felt the intensity.”
Van Dijk will join the likes of Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota in the road to recovery, as the two attackers work their way to full fitness following their respective injuries.
Liverpool take on Wolverhampton Wanderers next before league games against Brighton and Chelsea.
