Fans are looking for one big trade from the Chicago Cubs before the 2023 season begins.

This trade that fans want is between the Cubs and the Boston Red Sox for third baseman Rafael Devers.

However, fans were given a different trade on Wednesday.

The trade fans got was one sending right-handed pitcher Erich Uelmen to the Philadelphia Phillies for cash consideration.

While this isn’t the trade fans were dying for, it’s a solid deal for the Cubs.

Uelmen was a disaster in 2022 out of the bullpen for the team.

While the team gave him the spotlight to breakout, he instead fell flat in his relief appearances.

He made 25 appearances last season, finishing with a 4.67 ERA and 1.37 WHIP during 27 innings of work.

While it was his rookie season, the Cubs feel 2022 was a precursor to the career of the 26-year-old relief pitcher.

However, the move to trade Uelmen came shortly after the Cubs had just designated him for assignment to free up space on the 40-man roster.

While the cash considerations for him are unknown, it’s not likely to be a large amount.

However, the team will use whatever money they get to continue their off-season signings.

With the Cubs being in trade rumors with the Red Sox for Devers, they will need plenty of cash to reel him in.

While his one-year deal with the Red Sox is for $17.5 million, he wants a multi-year deal worth $300 million.

If the Cubs want this star player, they need all the money they can find to snag him for 2023 and beyond.
