The 2022 season started off horribly for the San Francisco 49ers.
After opening the season with a loss to the Chicago Bears, they then lost Trey Lance to a season-ending injury during their next game.
While the former first-round pick has been recovering from his surgery, an NFL insider is reporting troubling news on his recovery.

With him needing a second surgery, he’s now back on crutches for two more weeks.
However, the setback will not affect his return by the NFL 2023 season.
But with some hardware being removed because of irritation, it makes for concern with the young quarterback.
The irritation he went through with the hardware in his ankle might signal a bigger problem.
With him being out for 4-6 more months, he’s got a long way to go before he can make a return.
However, if the irritation means something isn’t taking with his surgery and he might be out longer.
With Brock Purdy performing well since he got the starting job, it makes for a tough choice for the 49ers.
It puts them in a position of either keeping their first-round pick or trading him to some other team.
If they feel Purdy can lead the offense, it can railroad any return by Lance in 2023.
But with his setback, it puts more questions on his health as the 49ers head into the NFL playoffs.
