West Ham boss David Moyes says that it is ‘impossible’ for Declan Rice to depart the club in January, as speculation over the midfielder’s future at West Ham lingers.
With the January transfer window opening in under 48 hours, speculation over West Ham United’s holding midfielder Declan Rice began to regain traction.
It has been largely reported that the 23-year-old will not sign a new deal at West Ham and therefore will need to be sold by the club.
Premier League giants Manchester United, Chelsea, and Manchester City are all rumoured to be circling around West Ham, sniffing for an opportunity to acquire the talented English midfielder.
However, David Moyes firmly stated that Declan Rice is not for sale in January, saying: “There will be no chance Declan Rice leaves in this window, no way. Impossible”
Declan Rice has made a name for himself as a superbly talented midfielder who has the capabilities to cut out opposition attacks and distribute calmly out of the midfield.
Rice has also flourished at international level, being a vital component of Gareth Southgate’s England midfield in the 2020 Euro’s and 2022 World Cup.
The West Ham manager also spoke on the matter before Christmas, explaining: “He wants to win and he wants to play for a really good side, which is going to give him that opportunity to do so.
“We hope that we can reach the Champions League. It is looking difficult at this moment in time but we are not just going to roll over and let Dec [Declan Rice] walk out of the building, that is for sure.
“It is going to be a big fight. I like it because he wants to challenge himself and wants to play in the big games and wants to be a top player. I don’t think you are ever going to hold anyone back from having those ambitions.”
But with the hammers currently finding themselves 16 points shy of a Champions League position and a point away from the relegation zone, the probability of meeting Rice’s expectations seems seismically low.
