The Chicago Cubs have made some moves this offseason signing free agent players.
While the team let Willson Contreras walk, they signed two big name players to help the team in 2023.
Even though these players don’t replace Contreras, they improve the Cubs roster.
Two of the biggest signings by the Cubs were of shortstop Dansby Swanson and starting pitcher Jameson Taillon.
But what grade do the Cubs get for signing these two players during of offseason?
Cubs Get B+ For Signing Taillon
The signing of Taillon was a bittersweet deal for the Cubs.
While his record in 2022 was great (14-5), his ERA was 3.91 for the season.

With the Cubs starting rotation only having one player above a 3.76 ERA, signing him wasn’t a big win.
However, the Cubs hope he can find some magic to win games, which was a struggle for their starting rotation last season.
With him being 31-years-old, it also might mean his best years are behind him.
But with having solid stats for 2022, the Cubs get a B+ for signing him to a four-year deal.
Cubs Get An A+ For Signing Swanson
The Cubs need someone that can provide both offense and defense at the shortstop position.
Signing Swanson helps the Cubs with these issues.
His performance last season saw him with some of his best numbers during his career.
It also saw him getting his first All-Star nomination and a Gold Glove award.
His .277 batting average was also his best since his rookie season in 2016.
With him making major improvements at 28-years-old, the Cubs get an A+ for getting him at the right time.
