The transfer portal is working overtime at Purdue on Monday.
Freshman quarterback Brady Allen announced on social media Monday that he is entering the transfer portal.
The same day, reports surfaced that the Boilermakers are reportedly adding former Texas quarterback Hudson Card. ESPN’s Pete Thamel had the initial report.
Card has been with the Longhorns for three years, playing sparingly in the first two. In 2022, he completed 75-of-108 passes for 928 yards, six touchdowns and one interception. He filled in for the injured Quinn Ewers early in the season, going 2-2 (wins over Texas-San Antonio and West Virginia, losses to Alabama and Texas Tech). He has thrown just 1 pass since Oct. 1.

Before entering the transfer portal, Allen was expected to be a candidate as Purdue’s starter next season before coach Jeff Brohm left to take over at Louisville.
“(Going to Purdue) was a decision that I put a lot of time and effort into,” Allen wrote. “(It’s a) decision that I never swayed from. However, sometimes the best plans don’t work out, and you have to deviate from them to do what’s best for your future.”
Allen, the 2021 IndyStar Mr. Football from Gibson Southern High School, was a four-star recruit. He completed 1 of 3 passes for 8 yards this season with senior Austin Burton serving as the primary backup to sixth-year QB Aidan O’Connell who opted out of the Citrus Bowl to prepare for the NFL Draft.
The departure of Allen, a 6-5, 205-pounder, left two scholarship quarterbacks on Purdue’s spring roster — junior Michael Alaimo and incoming freshman Ryan Browne. But the addition of Card through the the transfer portal is a good pickup for new coach Ryan Walters and offensive coordinator Graham Harrell.
Allen’s full tweet:
“Dear Purdue fans, teammates, coaches, and staff. It’s been an awesome experience wearing the black and gold. I am thankful for the relationships and memories I’ve made over the last year. I made a decision to attend Purdue University, and represent our home state over three years ago. It was a decision that I put a lot of time and effort into. A decision that I never swayed from. However, sometimes the best plans don’t work out, and you have to deviate from them to do what’s best for your future. After many thoughts and prayers I’ve decided to enter my name in the transfer portal.”
