Built after the 1928 Okeechobee hurricane destroyed countless structures in the area, this house was designed with steel girders and window frames to withstand high winds. It sits on a corner lot with mixed-use zoning, so it could be used not only as a single-family home, but also as a small inn. (The detached guesthouse is already used as a short-term vacation rental.)

The property is less than 15 minutes from Palm Beach. Palm Beach International Airport is a 20-minute drive, and Miami is about 90 minutes south.

Size: 2,788 square feet

Price per square foot: $628

Indoors: From the sidewalk, a paved path leads through a yard landscaped with lawn, low hedges and palm trees, to the main entrance.

The front door opens into a tiled foyer that separates the living and dining rooms. The living room, on the left, has hardwood floors, a fireplace with an ornate mantel and access to a sunroom with a cypress ceiling. The dining room opposite has arched windows overlooking the grounds. A breakfast room with built-in shelving is also off the foyer.

The adjacent kitchen has a farmhouse-style sink, stained-glass windows and access to a butler’s pantry, a tiled laundry room and a full bathroom.

All three bedrooms are on the second floor. At the top of the stair landing is an en suite guest room big enough to hold a queen-size bed. At the far end of this level are the primary bedroom, which also has an en suite bathroom, and a second guest room; they share a long terrace with ample space for lounging.

The detached guesthouse has a kitchen and a full bathroom.

Outdoor space: The property has several patios, one used for dining and another with a stone fountain. The guesthouse across the back lawn has a private patio with a canopy for shade. The detached garage holds two cars.
