Much to the dismay of several St. Louis Cardinals fans, Trea Turner is headed to the Philadelphia Phillies, the team that knocked them out in the postseason.

The deal is for 11 years and is worth $300 million.

While the Cardinals were never going to sign Turner, and likely will not target one of the other three free agent shortstops, fans are still frustrated to see the team that eliminated the Cards seemingly hungrier than their own team.

On Twitter, one fan expressed discontent with the team’s front office for their current lack of activity and their repeated unwillingness to add a star player on a long-term contract.

Again, the Cardinals are unlikely to pursue any of the other three free agent shortstops.

But other players on the market, such as left-hander Carlos Rodon, would certainly warrant a large contract.

Starting pitching is an area where the Cardinals could look to improve.

However, it appears that the Cardinals’ only real target in the starting pitcher’s market is mid-season acquisition Jose Quintana.

Granted, the Cardinals have rarely been a team to make a large splash in free agency, typically preferring to make marquee additions via trades.

But with several big free agents still out on the market, Cardinals fans are once again frustrated with the front office for not making a play for one of them.

With a catcher and a left-handed bat being the priorities this offseason, the bats of Andrew Benintendi and Josh Bell likely fit their needs better.

But that won’t help ease the frustrations of fans who were expecting the team to make a play for one of the shortstops.
