Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is in the midst of a breakout season.
While some people around the NFL world still aren’t sold on him, others are really to call him one of the best quarterbacks in football.
Former Pro Bowler Robert Griffin III fits into the second category.
Griffin believes Tagovailoa is among the five best quarterbacks in football, and he explained why on Tuesday.
Tua is a TOP 5 QUARTERBACK.
-NFL Record 3 straight games with a passer rating over 135.
-1st in QBR
-2nd in Completion %
-3rd in TDs
You can’t name 5 Quarterbacks that are playing better than this PISSED OFF SAMOAN.— Robert Griffin III (@RGIII) November 15, 2022
Griffin’s take certainly carries some weight, as he spent seven seasons as an NFL quarterback.
Tagovailoa, meanwhile, is in his third year at the NFL level, and with the way he’s playing this season, it seems like he’s going to have a long and successful career.
Statement Season
A few months ago, a lot of NFL fans were ready to write Tagovailoa off.
It’s safe to say he’s made those people look silly this season.
In eight games, the 24-year-old has completed 71.0 percent of his passes for 2,265 yards, tossing 18 touchdowns and just three interceptions.
Tagovailoa leads the league in several key categories, including quarterback rating (118.4) and QBR (82.6).
Moreover, the Dolphins win when he plays, as the team is:
- 7-0 in games that he starts and finishes
- 0-3 in all other games
In his last four games, Tagovailoa has thrown 1,230 yards, 10 touchdowns, and no interceptions, and the Dolphins are 4-0 over that stretch.
Miami desperately needed this four-game win streak, as the team had slipped to .500 at 3-3 before the streak began.
As things stand now, the Dolphins are 7-3.
They lead the AFC East, and Tagovailoa is perhaps the biggest reason why.
