Pro Football Focus revealed on Monday the three players who have the top odds as of now of winning the NFL MVP award.
The top candidate is no surprise: Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs, who won it in 2018, his first full season as a starter, and is always in the discussion for the award.
Second is Jalen Hurts, the starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles, who has piloted his team to an 8-1 record, which is tied with the Minnesota Vikings for the best in the league.
In third place is a surprise: Tua Tagovailoa, the third-year signal-caller for the Miami Dolphins, who appears to be in the middle of a breakout season.

Which of these three actually has the best chance of taking home the hardware at the end of the day?
Mahomes Is Always A Good Bet
The Chiefs have flown somewhat under the radar this year, as they don’t have speedster wide receiver Tyreek Hill anymore.
However, they hold a 7-2 record, which is the best in the AFC, and although the Buffalo Bills have been tagged as the favorites to reach the Super Bowl by many, they have to be the co-favorites along with Josh Allen‘s squad.
So far this season, Mahomes has put up 2,936 passing yards, 25 touchdowns, and a 106.1 passer rating.
Not bad at all for a man who some thought had been “figured out” by opposing coaches last season.
Tagovailoa Is The Dark Horse
The Dolphins are just half a game behind the Chiefs at 7-3, and believe it or not, they’re actually in first place in the AFC East.
After Tagovailoa had his concussion scare a few weeks ago, he has continued to play well, and since returning, he has thrown 10 straight touchdown passes without an interception, including three straight games with three touchdowns.
Tua has been scorching hot in his last 3 games.

Overall, he has 2,265 passing yards, 18 passing touchdowns, and a league-best 118.4 passer rating, and if the Fins finish with the conference’s best record, he may have a great shot at the MVP award.
