Arizona Voting Machine Problems Fuel Right-Wing Fraud Claims

The video, posted by Tyler Bowyer, the chief operating officer for Turning Point USA, a conservative youth organization, was viewed more than 1.7 million times on Twitter.

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, a Republican, shared the video on her official account and called for elections to use “paper ballots only.” Kari Lake, the Republican candidate for governor who has sown doubts about election integrity, posted the video on her Twitter account and added: “THIS is why we must reform our elections.”

During a livestream, Steve Bannon, the onetime aide to former President Donald J. Trump, suggested that the malfunction was a deliberate effort to suppress Republican votes on Election Day.

“They’re doing this on purpose,” Mr. Bannon said.

“The only way they can win is if they cheat,” Ben Bergquam, a guest on the show, replied.

Maricopa County, which encompasses Phoenix, has been a target of conspiracy theories since the 2020 presidential election, when more than 150 Republicans swarmed a vote-counting site festooned with Trump flags and asserted that the county was committing fraud.

Maricopa election officials have worked in the years since to dispel concerns about ballot issues in the county, weathering a bruising primary season that reignited conspiracy theories directed at officials and its election process.

“If you’re at a polling place experiencing an issue with a tabulator, you have three options & your vote will be counted in each,” Mr. Gates, the chairman of Maricopa County’s board of supervisors, posted on Twitter on Tuesday, receiving fewer than 200 likes.
