Aaron Boone is making some very odd calls with the New York Yankees’ bullpen.
His latest bullpen call during the ALDS against the Cleveland Guardians has him coming under fire.
While the first transgression came in game two against the Guardians, game three provided another bullpen blunder.
So what is Boone doing wrong to have him under fire?
Boone Neglects To Use Clay Holmes In Critical Ninth Inning Moment
Going into the bottom of the ninth, the Yankees held a 5-3 lead.
However, the Guardians’ three-run ninth inning rally gave them the victory.
It was during the ninth inning where Boone went the wrong direction with his bullpen.
Instead of using the sure-fire Clay Holmes, he went with Wandy Peralta and Clarke Schmidt.

With the game on the line, Boone clearly didn’t see the ninth inning rally as an “emergency” to call in Holmes.
While others saw the situation as an emergency, as the bases were loaded, Boone felt otherwise.
His decision comes off the heels of putting in starting pitcher Jameson Taillon as a reliever in the tenth inning in game two.
However, the heat is coming down hard on Boone for making two bullpen mistakes, which both led to losses.
Had the Yankees won both games, there’d be no questions about Boone’s decision-making skills.
But with the Yankees one loss away from postseason elimination, every loss will see criticism.
He can’t afford another bullpen mistake as the Yankees go into game four against the Guardians.
If he makes another mistake, it will be the last for him and the Yankees in the 2022 season.
