The next Fossil smartwatch, the Gen 6 Wellness Edition, adds more health and wellness features on top of the Gen 6 watch experience. But more importantly, it’ll be the brand’s first wearable to launch with Google’s Wear OS 3 software.
The Gen 6 Wellness Edition gives a makeover to the Fossil Gen 6 released last year. The new version has an updated interface and redesigned navigation, as well as updated wellness metrics. But the biggest upgrade will be access to Wear OS 3, which is available only on a handful of smartwatches, including last year’s Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, the newer Galaxy Watch 5 and the just-released Google Pixel Watch.
Wear OS 3 combines Google’s existing smartwatch operating system with input from Samsung’s Tizen OS and Fitbit. The resulting OS offers what some have called the best non-Apple Watch OS experience, but it’s come to only a handful of smartwatches since launching last year. Former Fossil Gen 6 watches may start getting upgraded to Wear OS 3 as well, Droid Life reported. Fossil didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
The Fossil Gen 6 Wellness Edition is scheduled to be available starting Oct. 17 for $299.
