The Los Angeles Dodgers are truly a powerhouse.

If they all had a full workload and avoided injuries in 2022, they could have as many as four Cy Young award candidates: Clayton Kershaw, Tyler Anderson, Tony Gonsolin, and Julio Urias.

Of them, maybe Urias will have a chance at winning the hardware, although it’s hard to see Miami Marlins star Sandy Alcantara losing it at this point.

Nevertheless, Urias has been magnificent this year and is about to make some history for his country.

“Last night, Julio Urías lowered his ERA to an NL-best 2.17. Urías, who is expected to make one more start this season, would be the first Mexican-born pitcher ever to lead his league in ERA,” ESPN Stats & Info tweeted.

Is Urias The Most Successful Mexican Pitcher In History?

Mexico has had some impressive pitchers over the years.

Jaime Garcia, Ismael Valdez, Oliver Perez, Yovani Gallardo, and fellow Dodgers icon Fernando Valenzuela are some of the best hurlers the country has ever produced.

Urias has a strong case to be the most talented and successful of the bunch.

Besides his brilliant 2.17 ERA this season in 170 innings, the left-hander also has 17 wins and 162 strikeouts.

He has been a consistent source of quality innings for a rotation that has missed several pieces during large periods due to injury, such as Kershaw, Gonsolin, Dustin May, and Walker Buehler.

Urias should still have one start left in the regular season, so he could either wrap up his first ERA title or lose it to the competition.

However, that last start won’t take away the fact he has been the Dodgers’ most consistently great hurler in 2022.

That’s saying a lot.
